Our senior debaters at UCD

TY’s recently (4th February) attended “I Wish” in the RDS. I Wish is an initiative to inspire, encourage and motivate young female students to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). I WISH (Inspiring Women in STEM) featured a conference and interactive exhibitions. It also featured workshops, daily keynotes and panel discussions by women who have seen the opportunities for a great career in STEM.
It was a very successful weekend for our Sion Hill Debating club. A Lawrence and P Rattan competed in the Philspeaks competitive weekend in Trinity college and won!
Five junior students travelled to Bettystown for the Matheson Ormsby Mace debate and competed in several debates throughout the day. This was the last of the preliminary rounds that they have competed in, and the following four students have now qualified for the Leinster Final at the end of February! Huge congratulations to P Agrawal, I Tripathi, K Abdulhaman and A Binu.
Hockey and athletics are cancelled today due to the weather.
****SAVE THE DATE the Summer Fair is back on Sunday 10th May****
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Summer fair is held every second year and is an opportunity for the whole school community of Students, Teachers AND Parents to pull together to raise significant funds for the school.
Our target is €20,000 this year towards upgrading computers/IT equipment for the girls and we know with your help we can achieve it!
We are asking everyone can you help in any way with some suggestions below.
Contact us if you can help:firstname.lastname@example.org
CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP: Can you help us get corporate sponsorship for main raffle prizes from any company you know or work for? (We already have €200 sponsorship for 2 Longitude tickets!)
SKILL / TALENT: Do you have a job or skill that would be useful to help us make the fair a big success?!
STALL IDEAS / STOCK: Would you like to get involved with a business or idea suited to a Fair Stall (e.g. Hot Food, butcher, plant/garden stall). Do you know any company that would help stock our stalls?
PRIZES FOR TOMBOLA: Any unwanted Christmas gifts or vouchers will be gratefully received e.g. hairdressers, Restaurant, Gym, Driving lessons etc.
SPREAD THE WORD The fair is open to anyone not just the school community! Spread the word via local schools (especially primary) and families in the area to come along and enjoy the fun!
We will be in touch in a few weeks with more details about how the girls will contribute to the fair and other ways in which you may be able to assist.
The Summer Fair will include old favourites such as the BBQ, Hot Food, Tombola, Wheel of Fortune, Home Bake Cake Sale, as well as Book stall, Plant Stall, Accessories, Face painting etc.
The Student Council will organise the Fair Games and music and entertainment will be provided throughout the afternoon in the Concert Hall, making this a fun day for all the family.
